So things started out wonderful, as I said earlier. We met a nice guy from eastchester who we spent the day with seeing the sights and just hanging around. We stayed out pretty late and set an alarm for 6am so that we would make our bus to our dream destination PUNTA DEL DIABLO! At 4 in the morning I awoke, positive our cabaña was about to explode, to the sounds of a major major storm. Though our bus was set to leave at 830, and the ride from our cabaña to the bus was a good half hour, we could not get ourselves to step into the rainy mess until 5 minutes to 8. We nearly missed our bus but alas made it with 2 minutes to spare. The ride to Diablo was fine. Unfortunately we got off one stop to early, in the middle of a field, and had to walk a good 3 miles into town. After visiting a handful or booked hostels we eventually found one about a mile off the beach. The rooms were pretty basic. Mattresses without sheets, towels, or pillows. There were about 20 beds per room, and it was hot as hell, but let it roll off the old shoulders, positive that this was Uruguay, it had to be good. By this time it was starting to get late so we walked the mile to the beach. The vibe was awesome, artisanos lined the dirt streets, we could see surfers on the giant waves...all in all it was beautiful. We sat down to eat, drank too much beer, and chatted for a few hours. By the time we were done it was too late to go to the beach so we just watched the water from the hill and looked forward to the next day. We went back to hostel, went to sleep, hoping to get up early and enjoy life at the beach.
To be continued....
